Great, quick read - packed with info!!

A very informative yet concise book! I would highly recommend this book to anyone getting into the house cleaning business or even for the person who wants a better way to clean their own home! I found myself using Wendy's methods in my own home and I've saved SO much time. I'm no longer running from room to room, back and forth. This is truly a book for anyone who cleans - business or personal. As for the business side of it, she breaks it down into real, actionable steps that are easy to follow. It makes the process of starting your own business less overwhelming and more exciting. I highly recommend!

I absolutely love Wendy’s book! Everything you need to know about starting a cleaning business is laid out for you in this step-by-step guide. She explains how to manage and maximize your time to how to deal with difficult and unpleasant situations and everything in-between. It's all spelled out in simple terms.

I just began my residential cleaning business and now feel more confident from the knowledge I’ve gained from her book and youtube videos. Wendy radiates such charm and likability through videos makes me wish I knew her in person!

First time I have EVER returned something to Amazon

This book was almost useless. The description said it contained 40 recipes, but the examples in this book were far from usable.

It really looked like the author just printed some sample code from the PhoneGap API and provided no setup, no explanation and no surrounding code for the examples he gave. The first 5 chapters were each dedicated to portions of the PhoneGap API with no information other than the code to access:

Geolocation(ch1),
Files(ch2),
Audio/video(ch3),
Contacts(ch4),
and Battery/network info (ch5).

All this information is available on their website. The whole point of a book is to give you more of an explanation and walk you through some examples. I've found better information on the first page of a Google search.

I usually keep books around, even if they only have 1 good chapter that I can refer to later. But, this was so useless and horribly disorganized, I decided I didn't want to keep it around as a reminder of the $50 that I wasted.

PhoneGap Mobile Application Development Cookbook (2012) provides HTML/JS developers with recipes for using the PhoneGap framework to create and build mobile applications that run on multiple platforms including Android and iOS. Written by Matt Gifford who has a long background in rich internet application development using Adobe's Cold Fusion product, the book offers a no frills tour of the PhoneGap/Cordova API with an emphasis on taking advantage of the various capabilities of mobile devices. This book provides a solid tour under the hood of the Cordova API suitable mainly for experienced JavaScript coders who want to exploit native device capabilities. Designers primarily interested in using the more recent PhoneGap Build service to quickly compile and deploy their creations will not find much here to meet their needs. Project managers will find this book useful for making decisions about the kinds of things the PhoneGap/Cordova architecture can accomplish.

As one might expect, the bulk of PhoneGap Mobile Application Development Cookbook consists mainly of code samples which are clearly presented with a sensible number of helpful illustrations. The first half of the book presents recipes for detecting and using movement and location, file system storage and local databases (including SQLite), working with device based audio/video/photography capabilities, managing contacts, and some native events such as application/battery/network status. The second half of the book provides overviews of how to implement and use the XUI and JQuery Mobile JavaScript libraries followed by chapters revealing how to create native plugins and encourages exploration of the growing repository of plugins already contributed by the PhoneGap development community.
As is inexplicably the case with many software cookbooks, the last chapter is where you'll probably want to start as this is where you will find information on downloading and installing the Cordova codebase as well as workflows for iOS developers in X-Code, Android developers in Eclipse, and for others using Adobe Dreamweaver.

PhoneGap Mobile Application Development Cookbook provides a disclaimer of which you should take note: "During the writing process for this book, the project itself went through a number of version releases, the latest being version 2.0, and as new versions are released, inevitably some properties, minor functions, and details change." Indeed, as of the date this review was written, the project is now at version 3.3.0. A lot has happened on the mobile development scene since 2012 resulting in some glaring omissions from this book's table of contents. Most notably absent is any discussion of making use of the Adobe Edge tools in conjunction with PhoneGap. Also absent is discussion of the Adobe PhoneGap Build implementation which allows users to compile their mobile applications in the cloud. PhoneGap Mobile Development Cookbook does not provide much guidance regarding the PhoneGap XML configuration file where permissions, metadata, and other application critical information is stored and must usually be modified before building. (With some effort, this information can be found online but even the PhoneGap.com documentation itself is somewhat scattered.)

While it may be obvious to many, I would gently remind readers that successfully packaging a mobile application using PhoneGap is hardly tantamount to having your app accepted and distributed to market via an app store. It is quite possible to code and package a mobile application which will be summarily rejected by Apple, Google or Microsoft for reasons entirely unrelated to your code. Submitting your PhoneBuild mobile application to an app store is not covered in PhoneGap Mobile Application Development Cookbook.

In summary, Gifford has provided a wide ranging first look at the PhoneGap API. One can hardly understate the rapid rate of change taking place in this area, however. For this reason, the 2012 edition of PhoneGap Mobile Application Development Cookbook is probably best suited as a handy overview of capabilities rather than as an up-to-the-minute reference. The fact remains that for developers who prefer not to commit themselves to drinking only one flavor of Kool-Aid , PhoneGap provides a refreshing cross-platform alternative. For this reason alone, PhoneGap and this book are worth exploring.

PhoneGap it's a great tool to build Android apps, and this book it's a quite good reference to it.
The book covers 9 main areas (from accelerometer and geolocation to contacts, jQuery Mobile and plugins). In total there are more the 40 recipes.
Every section is full of code with explanations that sometimes are too short but always useful.
Perhaps the price (bot printed or ebook version) it's a little too high.

Somewhat Unusual

The book contains some good information but I didn't really care for the style of writing. It's written as if there was a job interview taking place. Questions are listed and for each, the writer prints the answer they would provide on an actual interview. Many of the answers were good but sometimes specific hardware and/or software brands, that the writer has used in the past, were given and I don't agree with the author that these brands are the only ones that should be used. This basically left those question unanswered in my opinion. Also, there is a fairly lengthy section for answering non-technical questions, such as "What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses". I don't believe that needed to be included in the book. This was not a terrible book, so if this sounds like the kind of book you would like, you might want to check it out.

CD Does Not Come with Book

Some people have suggested, just get the CD, save your money and don't buy the book. I was able to buy the book and will always be a "book" not an e-book person; personally I loved the book and never got around to the CD. I provide this information for those wishing to save a few $$$. Others have reviewed the contents of the CD; my purpose is to tell you how to buy the CD. If I get negative reviews for telling people how to save a few $$, I will have to believe it's the publishers who did it.

The CD did not come with the book when ordering new from Amazon. There is an offer on the back of the book to buy the CD separately if it did not come with the text (only professors can order the book bundled with the CD-ROM); normally the CD is available only separately. ISBN for the CD is 0495505595 in case you only want the CD. It's $17.99. Otherwise, the book comes with an access code that is supposed to link online to the same content that is on the CD. The publisher also invites you to purchase the online content separately ("for a small fee") if you buy a used book.

Just Great

Hurley’s logic is simply the best first-order logic book I have encounter, to date. Potential buyers should definitely get the tenth edition onward, or at least the ninth edition, otherwise, the book is quite different and the formatting, for one, is considerably poorer. Not only is the arrangement of the book aesthetically appealing and easy to work with, the formatting makes for easy learning. I did have an outstanding professor, when I took my logic course, but I definitely believe this book could be used without an instructor. About a year later, after having read the book, I used it again for preparation for a metalogic course, and it worked for me just as well as when I had the first time, with an instructor.

The book covers pretty much everything I have seen covered in an undergraduate first-order logic course. The book begins with informal fallacies, works through a great deal of syllogistic and medieval logic, and moves on up to natural deduction, and so on. The book, I think, tries to adhere to a chronology of development of logic, as it was in history, but, where efficacious, Hurley has placed the most pertinent ideas together for maximized umph. The problems help the reader develop simpler skills first, before moving on to harder ones in that section. In this respect, the book is very well organized, each problem eliciting for one more new skill, once the previous one has been answered. At least half of the answers are in the back of the book, so, again, and instructor is not absolutely necessary. This book, also, does not take long to go through, which is a feat for a technical book of this kind. An adept, with some dedication, can make it through this book in a month’s time, I believe, and I feel that most students of average intelligence will be able to assimilate the vast majority of its content in four months’ time (i.e., a semester’s study).

Recommended to all, and I think any high-schooler (or anyone familiar with the abstract concept of a “variable,” perhaps middle-schoolers) upward would find tremendous value in this text. If you choose to read one book on logic, I think this would be the one I recommend.

Journalist Kaye spent the 2000-01 season with the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers during their up-and-down quest for a repeat title. Coach Phil Jackson's teams are noted for running the Triangle Offense, but what is most evident in following his Lakers is that the Kobe Bryant/ Shaquille O'Neal/Phil Jackson triangle often took on soap-opera proportions. That soap opera is the focus of Kaye's book as she tries to explain how a championship team could implode so quickly in the regular season and then turn things around and come together as a team once again in time for the playoffs. At press time, the season appeared to be following the same story line, and if it ends the same way as last season, the Lakers can truly boast of the dynasty noted in the title of this work. The most interesting perspectives are offered by the many less-famous veteran players who served a valuable role in the championship run. Recommended for all public libraries. The accepted adage in sports is that getting to the top is tough but staying there is exponentially tougher. The Los Angeles Lakers won the 2000 NBA championship behind Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, and the sage coaching of Phil Jackson. Could they do it again? Yes, but not easily. Author Kaye, whose work has appeared in such publications as Esquire and Rolling Stone, tracks the team's sometimes bumpy road to a repeat championship in 2001. She profiles the individual players and coaches (including the lesser knowns, like basketball gypsy Mike Penberthy); but, more pointedly, she focuses on the ephemeral chemistry that every successful team develops. Phil Jackson comes through as a subtle, clever, and knowing coach, confident enough to retreat to the background when a midseason feud erupted between Shaq and Kobe, the team's foundation. ("Family" spats, Jackson learned during his championship years with the Chicago Bulls, are best allowed to dissipate on their own timeline.) THE AUTHOR OF THIS BOOK HAS NO EXPERIENCE COVERING SPORTS. IN HER FIRST ATTEMPT I THINK SHE DOES A VERY GOOD JOB DESCRIBING THE CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON OF THE 2000 LAKERS. THE DETAILED RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE PLAYERS IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THIS BOOK. NOT ONLY KOBE AND SHAQ BUT ALL THE OTHER PLAYERS ARE OF INTEREST IN THIS STORY. FROM ROBERY HORRY TO RICK FOX TO PHIL JACKSON, YOU FIND OUT SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT EACH ONE OF THEM. BUT THE MAIN STORY IS THE COMING OF AGE OF KOBE FROM A BALL HOG TO A COMPLETE PLAYMAKER AND PASSER. I RECOMMEND THIS FOR ALL BASKETBALL FANS.

Nothing new for real fans

This is a good book for part-time Laker fans. They get to learn a lot about locker room stories.
But if you're someone who regularly follow the Lakers'exploits during the season, on the internet or otherwise, you're not getting any wiser by reading this book. The author was just repeating articles form the LA Times, OCR and other sources. Reading passages in the book you get the feeling that you've already read that somewhere else.
This ain't a David Halberstram book.

I loved Ain't No Tomorrow. I found out things I never knew and not only about the Lakers but players like Allen Iverson and Michael Jordan. It's a great book. There's never been any basketball book like it. Don't miss this one.
