Phlebotomy textbook

This was our required reading textbook for a community college phlebotomy class. It was a good guide for begginers, but if you'd want to become certified I'd reccomend getting supplemental material as well.

Great book

Even though my phlebotomy class changed to a different book right before class started ... I read a lot of this book it has great detail diagrams and definitions! This book has a great layout! also, i ordered a used one and it was in AMAZING shape! Not a mark one on it and the disk had not been open !

I found this textbook to be a real bonus for my phlebotomy class. It had plenty of illustrations that complememnted the text. I wound up getting an A in the class so I think the book is worth the money!

Cash and Clutch are back!

"Deadland's Harvest" is one of those books where you resent the slightest interruption of your reading. If you go to the fridge for a snack, you're going to want to carry it with you. Yes, it's just that involving.
Rachel Aukes continues the saga begun in "100 Days in Deadland," right where the first volume left off, making it indeed a continuation, rather than a sequel.
The story continues to move forward at a breakneck pace, while the characters, in adapting to their radically altered reality, evolve in subtle and totally believable ways. Comparisons to Dante's "Divine Comedy " provide a standard that at first glance, would seem almost impossible to live up to, and yet, Ms. Aukes pulls it off with a comfortable sensibility. The embodiment of the Deadly sins, for instance, never feels forced or contrived. In Aukes' prose, these traits seem to be "just there," the way they appear to be in people we observe in our everyday reality.
"Deadland's Harvest" is a compelling read, one that the reader will find himself thinking about long after the last page has been turned.

Harvest this saga for a good read.

The saga so far is worth the read. Rachel continues her main character development 'the strong female role' and you will start seeing a stronger cohesion throughout the book. Rachel keeps you thinking about ,not only the zombies, but personal and family growth. It's a very entertaining read if you are into the zombie genre and personal achievement and loss.
Rachel's style of writing is easy to read and keeps you focused on the various characters and story lines she's developing. You will notice when the characters go through many setbacks they still strive to live and move on. Rachel makes this very evident in her writing. Oddly enough it's a very tragic book but it encompasses many positive aspects of human nature.
I look forward to her last installment of the saga.

~~Slower/Smellier/Uglier~~

Seven months after the outbreak finds Cash and the rest of the group at Camp Fox. The Camp has around 50 survivors but more are arriving daily. Therein lies the problem for Captain Tyler Madsen. The amount of food is ample now but won't last long with more mouths to feed. Clutch is recovering from his back injury and is becoming more frustrated as the days continue without him being able to walk.

The zeds appear to be getting slower, smellier and uglier. The stench is overbearing when one is in close contact with them. Some of the newly arrived survivors tell Captain Madsen that he fears the zeds are starting to migrate to the South. This is the point in the book where the action intensifies and continues to the very last page.

Cash gets into her Cessna with a small crew and goes on recon missions. And what they observe in the air is indeed mind boggling. Captain Madsen finally makes contact with Captain Sorenson on a riverboat . The leaders of Camp Fox are hopeful that he may be able to offer some assistance.

I love the Pied Piper tactics that were utilized in the fight against the zeds! And, the funeral service for one of the members of Camp Fox is most poignant. Despite all of the action involved, the author has also interjected some humor at the right spots!

The action encompasses many different levels as well as some nasty injuries to the Camp Fox personnel. The characters are well developed, plot is tightly sewn together and an incredible surprise ending (which I always appreciate).

Most highly recommended and well done to this author...

Best Grammar Book on the Market

This book is about double the price of most German grammar books on the market. But it is worth every penny. I have at least 4 other grammar books at home, but they only offer one or two examples to demonstrate the new grammar in use. They are printed in one color, utilize few charts, graphs, and photos and are insanely boring to read. Grammar is not the most exiting subject, so I was thrilled to find this book that utilized multiple fonts, font sizes, colors, graphs, charts, etc. to spice it up a bit. The dual color printing adds to the clarity as well, making is easier to find topics and understand charts. In addition, the book gives you far more than one or two examples per topic. Another bonus is that the book offers both a figurative and literal translation of the German sentences in English. Most grammar books only offer the figurative. For example, the author writes the German sentence, "Ich warte darauf, dass er mich anruft". The figurative translation is, "I'm waiting for him to ring me up" and the literal translation is, "I'm waiting for it that he rings me up". Examples such as this help one understand the German sentence structure better and how it compares to English. The only part of this book that I don't utilize is the section in the back of the book with practice exercises and answer key. I find that this section just adds to the bulk of the book as I pack it back and forth to my class everyday where my teachers give me plenty of exercises to practice with. I guess that this section would add to the value of the book if you were teaching yourself German. Over all, you can't go wrong by adding this book to your collection!

Best Choice Out of a Strong Field

Easy to understand and thorough explanations along with a clear, well ordered layout make this a stand out among the field of German grammar books. Schaum's is good, if a bit boring, but if you don't mind spending a few dollars more, this one is worth it and will probably serve you better. Since I am studying on my own, the exercises are essential. You can't really understand the grammar point until you apply the rule a few times yourself. This feature gives Essential Grammar an advantage over he pure reference grammar.

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!

I found this book to be exactly what it says it is: essential! I consult it almost everytime that I write something to my penpal, or for my german class, or for myself. I especially like the different colors and typefaces (bold, italicized) to help make sure that you don't miss what the concept in that section is trying to get accross. Another great aspect is that the book doesn't seem to be satified with just one example, it gives you at least two, or three, sometimes even four examples of the way that this concept is implemented. I have many German grammar books, and I find this one to be the best of the collection. This book is a must have for any learner of German.

Focus on self defense and basics

This book covers jiu jitsu fundamentals and self defense as good as any. For what it aims to do - preserve the simplicity of Helio's high leverage innovations - it is a fanstastic, if slightly pricey, book. There's answers to many questions that don't appear in daily jiu jitsu training. ("How do I use what I know to defend a knife attack?") It's also great for reminders - "What's the perfect posture to avoid a triangle?" - Helio demonstrates the correct way.

All this said, do buy the book for what it is, not what it isn't. It isn't a manual on modern innovations - there are better places to learn the X-guard, the De La Riva Guard, the Rubber Guard, and other no Gi techniques. The focus is on gi jiu jitsu fundamentals and self defense. For that, it succeeds greatly.

This book contains the complete foundation of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. The theory, principles, and technique are invaluable; and come directly from the source. Grandmaster Helio Gracie is no longer with us, but anyone new to the practice of GJJ can use this to learn his amazing self-defense/fighting art. I am a GJJ Brown Belt with over 9 years of experience and still constantly reference this book. In addition, there are historic photographs and stories that any student will enjoy.

Male Bohemians in Paris

This is unquestionably a very, very well researched book. The writing is also strong, if not terribly stylish. The reason for docking the book stars is threefold:

1. The book has a maddeningly repetitive rhythm. Each chapter focuses on a particular exemplar of Bohemia and analyzes his life and work. Each chapter draws the same conclusions about the conflicts between the individual and society, between artistic and financial advancement. After a while the stories all began to blur. And the trope of a single man (sometimes two) exemplifying Bohemia at a certain point in time is not terribly convincing.

2. I am fairly familiar with Parisian and French history, but this book assumes a great deal of knowledge that I didn't have. It was very hard to contextualize much of the book because the larger history was never laid out. This is clearly not the aim of the book - it traces a particular phenomenon, not a city or a country. But still, I could have benefited enormously from some sketches of the political and social situations in Paris over the course of the period treated here.

3. Even if women were only models and lovers in Bohemian Paris, even if those female artists and personalities that lived were overshadowed by their male peers, this book is glaringly uninterested in treating women in depth. Given the structure mentioned above (each chapter about a male figure) it is perhaps inevitable that women are not written about with anywhere near the complexity or interest as the men. Which is a shame, because it leaves out so much of the world of Bohemia.

The scholarship is impressive given its limits. But these limits are not insignificant.

History with whimsy

The cover of this book is so telling about the contents that I searched for the poster to hang it in my voice studio. The time and place of early Cabaret is very intriguing to me and this book gave the details of the social canvas behind the whimsy of the art form. This is one of the most wonderful ways to read history. It IS NOT DRY. It springs up your imagination. songbird@avavictoria.com

Everything I needed to know about life in Paris at this time.

I needed facts for a group of artists who were painting for an exhibiton with a turn of the century Paris theme.

This book was well written, entertaining, and contained some little known details for these well known and well read artists. The Exhibition was planned to highlight "Le Chat Noir", the caberet where many artists gathered just before the turn of the century, and the book gives life to the Caberet scene in Paris, as well as the total Bohemian scene there in that time frame.

This book was so good in many other ways, that every one of the artists decided to read the whole book. I highly recommend it.
