Disappointed. Very good book overall

Disappointed. Very good book overall, but the title is pretty misleading. This doesn't even begin with the Ninth Doctor who rebooted the series. It's all 10, 11, and 12. Good content, certainly. Talks about their enemies and companions. I had hoped for something encompassing the series- at least the whole of the new series, but also had hoped for the original portion to be represented as well. A good book, to be sure. But know it's not as expanded as you might hope.

My kids love this and it's always at arm's reach when watching Doctor Who

This and the Character Encyclopedia seem to be in constant motion as my kids pass them from to the other when we watch an episode. The illustrations are big and clear and the explanatory text is quite informative, especially given its conciseness.

About the Author
Bill Nickels is professor emeritus of business at the University of Maryland, College Park. He has over 35 years’ experience teaching graduate and undergraduate business courses, including introductory courses in business, marketing, and promotion. He has won the Outstanding Teacher on Campus Award four times and was nominated for the award many other times. He received his MBA degree from Western Reserve University and his PhD from The Ohio State University. He has written a marketing communications text and two marketing principles texts in addition to many articles in business publications. He has taught many seminars to business people on subjects such as power communications, marketing, non-business marketing, and stress and life management.

Susan McHugh is a learning specialist with extensive training and experience in adult learning and curriculum development. She holds an MEd degree from the University of Missouri and completed her coursework for a PhD in education administration with a specialty in adult learning theory. As a professional curriculum developer, she has directed numerous curriculum projects and educator training programs. She has worked in the public and private sectors as a consultant in training and employee development.

Jim McHugh holds an MBA degree from Lindenwood University and has had broad experience in education, business, and government. As chairman of the Business and Economics Department of St. Louis Community College/Forest Park, Jim coordinated and directed the development of the business curriculum. In addition to teaching several sections of Introduction to Business each semester for nearly 30 years, Jim taught in the marketing and management areas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Jim enjoys conducting business seminars and consulting with small and large businesses. He is actively involved in the public service sector and served as chief of staff to the St. Louis County Executive.

Another edition change?

As a college professor, it upsets me when book authors and publishers change editions so frequently. There is a new editon of this book coming out (perhaps it already has). C'mon-how much about basic business has since 2001? It seems a ploy to not only charge students more money (and disallow them to buy a used edition) and force professors to change the lesson plans for the course-based on changes in a couple of chapters.
The book, however, is well written and provides good examples and case studies.

DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM! Buy the access code instead. It comes with the online book. I now have to spend close to $150 to buy the access code separately. Excellent book

I teach a course using this book. This book is excellent! Even my students like the book (although the price is on the high end). The material is presented in a clear, easy to understand but interesting manner. It covers the wide topics covered in business and provides a great "understanding of business". I highly recommend this book.

About the Author

Laurent Gayer is a research fellow at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), currently posted at the Centre de Sciences Humaines (CSH) in Delhi. He is also Research Associate at the Centre d'Etudes de l'Inde et de l'Asie du Sud in Paris. He has coedited, with Christophe Jaffrelot, Armed Militias of South Asia: Fundamentalists, Maoists, and Separatists, and Muslims in Indian Cities: Trajectories of Marginalization, both of which are available from OUP.

Understanding Karachi; Understanding Pakistan

Karachi finally has a book that it deserves. This painstakingly researched book by a French author, who uses his Urdu skills and personal knowledge of Karachi's teeming slums to decipher the various conflicts that beset this megalopolis, sets the Gold Standard for a portrait of Pakistan's economic heart. Each chapter reveals the multi-layered realities of Karachi. The book helps you understand the ethnic, sectarian, and economic conflicts that rage simultaneously. The picture is of a city that represents Pakistan in microcosm. If Karachi fails, Pakistan fails. If Karachi hangs together, there is hope for Pakistan. Read this with a companion gripping novel "The Prisoner" by Omar Shahid Hamid to get a flavor of life in Karachi.Gayer has taken Steve Inskeep's brilliant reportage in Instant City and given it academic heft and rigor.A must read for policymakers in Pakistan and the region, and interested citizens of Pakistan.

Its after a while that I have enjoyed a work of non-fiction so much

A serious, smooth flowing and objective analysis of conflict in Karachi. Several works of fiction and non-fiction have appeared recently on Karachi but Gayer's book tops them all. The text flows smoothly and artfully uses Urdu literature, at times, to explain conditions. Its after a while that I have enjoyed a work of non-fiction so much.
